FAQ's

Am I putting my dog's health at risk by exposing them to new people and animals?
There are some concerns about the health risks of exposing your puppy to new people, other animals, and environments. However, the American Veterinary Society of Animal Behavior recommends that the standard of care for puppies is to receive such socialization before they are fully vaccinated (typically, four months old). Incomplete or improper socialization during their first months of life can increase the risk of behavioral problems later in life including fear, avoidance, and/or aggression.  All puppies in this class are required to have age appropriate vaccinations.  Click here for article about this important topic.
What are the requirements to register for this class?
  • Puppies should have completed Puppy Head Start and be 15-24 weeks old for Puppy Next Steps.
  • Pre-registration.
  • Proof of vaccination (first of three Distemper (DHPP) vaccination series and up-to-date de-worming).
  • Rabies is not a requirement for Puppy Next Steps.
when can I sign up for THIS class?
Puppy Next Steps classes are available all year and you can start at any time. You can even book Puppy Next Steps before you bring your puppy home.  This allows you to have more scheduling options and guarantees that you will have time to take the class prior to your puppy aging out.
Where is this class being held?
All classes are held at the Montgomery County 4H Center, located at 1015 Bridge Road (Route 113), Collegeville, PA 19426.   The entrance to the studio is on the side of the building adjacent to the pavilions.  Look for the white numbers on the building D16. The studio is not wheelchair accessible.
what should i bring to class?
Puppy :) well-fitting harness, 6 foot leash, 15 foot non-retractable leash, treat pouch, small treats, poop bags
What if we haven't completed puppy head start?
If your puppy did not take Puppy Head Start and is older than 20 weeks, we recommend Manners and More Level 1 and/or Leash and Greet.  We also offer off leash playtime, however your dog would need to be evaluated before participating.

Occasionally, we allow puppies to participate in Next Steps without taking Head Start.  This decision  is made on a case by case basis.
